From May to November, take a full day trip to discover the natural wonders of Japan's northernmost island, Hokkaido. 

It takes about an hour to reach the crater itself and a couple hours to explore the rim, including Higashi-dake, which is the highest point and offers spectacular views of the lake below.
After your descent, take a refreshing dip in a series of indoor and outdoor baths with more views of the mountain as your backdrop.  

Finish the day with a hot spring bath over looking the lake.
